The problem
The goal was an educational mobile game to help children identify and understand their own emotions. Beyond the gameplay, the project had to manage users and record the actions and choices each one makes inside the game.
What was agreed
- Prioritized scope
- Three parts: the educational mobile game, about identifying and understanding one's own emotions; user management for the game; and a record of each user's actions and choices inside the game.
What was delivered
Children play on a phone, each with their own user, and every action and choice made in the game is recorded.
Who it’s for
The game is made for children.
How it works
Each player is a user of the game, managed in Firebase, and the actions and choices the child makes while playing are recorded there too.
The technology, in plain words
- Unity 3D: a game engine, a tool for creating 2D and 3D games for phones, computers and consoles. The game was built in it.
- C#: a programming language from Microsoft, used to program games in Unity. In this project, it is the game’s language.
- Firebase: a set of Google services that gives apps a ready-made server side, such as user accounts and databases. In this project, it handled user management and the record of actions and choices in the game.
How it went
Assessment
At the start
An initial conversation to understand the client's request and problem.
Discovery Sprint
Before building
The problem was understood and the scope defined.
Development
Between 2017 and 2019
Built in incremental releases throughout the project, not all at the end.
Support and continuous improvement
After going live
The game then moved into support and maintenance.
