How much does custom software or app development cost?

The price is fixed before development starts, and nothing is charged before that: the assessment and, when it's needed, the Discovery Sprint are free. With the price for your scope in hand, you decide whether to go ahead.

No obligation · 45 minutes · written feedback

What drives the price of custom software

The price of a web application, a mobile app or the first version of a product (an MVP) comes down to how much work it takes. These are the 7 factors that matter most:

  1. Scope size

How many processes, screens and features go into the version being built.

  2. User types and permissions

Who uses the system and what each role can see and do: staff, managers, customers, suppliers.

  3. Business rules and calculations

Commissions, taxes, approvals, due dates: the more rules specific to your company, the more work.

  4. Integrations with other systems

Each system that needs to talk to the new one, such as an ERP, an online store or a payment provider, and how easily it allows that connection.

  5. Platforms (web, iOS, Android)

Running in the browser, on iPhone, on Android or on all three changes the amount of work.

  6. Existing data to migrate

Information that lives in spreadsheets or legacy systems today and needs to move into the new one.

  7. Deadline

If you have a fixed date to hit, the plan shows what can be delivered by then, and the price is fixed for that scope.

What drives the cost of an app

For an app, these also affect the price:

  • iPhone (iOS), Android or both
  • Publishing to the app stores
  • Push notifications
  • Offline use

You don't need these answers to request the assessment. We sort them out with you at no cost, in the assessment and, if it's needed, in the Discovery Sprint.

Why we don't quote prices through a form

A form can't see your business rules or the systems that need to talk to each other, so the number tends to come out padded or grow later. That's why our assessment request ends with a project summary, not a price.

How you get to a fixed price

  1. Assessment

    Free

A 45-minute conversation and written feedback.

  2. Discovery Sprint

    Cost
    Free, when needed

It ends with a plan that fixes the timeline and price, and you decide whether to move forward. When it isn't needed, the timeline and price are still fixed before development.

How to compare software development quotes

Ask every vendor these questions: the answers tell you more than the final price. Ours are right below each question.

  1. What's out of scope?

A proposal that doesn't say what's been left out can't be compared with another.

At Lemamon.dev: the scope is put in writing before development, with what's in, what's out and what can wait.

  2. Is the price fixed, or time and materials (billed by the hour)?

The answer shows whether the price can change mid-project.

At Lemamon.dev: fixed in writing, before development.

  3. When will I see working software?

Progress is software you can actually use, not a status report.

At Lemamon.dev: every 2 weeks during development, for you to use.

  4. What happens if the scope changes?

Change happens. Before you sign, ask how it's handled and how it affects timeline and price.

At Lemamon.dev: you get working software every 2 weeks so you can spot early on what needs to change. If a change affects the scope, we agree on a revised scope, timeline and price with you before we continue.

  5. Who takes care of the software once it's live?

Live software still needs looking after. Find out who handles it before you sign.

At Lemamon.dev: if you'd like, we keep looking after the live system through ongoing support and continuous improvement, at a price agreed with you before work starts.

  6. What do I get before paying for development?

If nothing is in writing before development starts, you're approving the project blind.

At Lemamon.dev: everything before development is free. You get written feedback from the assessment and, when a Discovery Sprint is needed, a problem definition, a prioritized scope and a plan with a fixed timeline and price. When it isn't, the scope, timeline and price still come fixed in writing.

Prioritized scope: the list of what the software will do, in order, showing what comes first and what waits until later.

  7. Who owns the code at the end of the project?

If your company doesn't own the code, switching vendors can mean starting from scratch.

At Lemamon.dev: the code built for your project belongs to your company, and that's written into the contract.

Questions about pricing

Is the quote free?

Yes. The 45-minute assessment, with written feedback, is free, and the fixed development price comes in writing before you decide whether to go ahead.

Do I pay anything before development?

No. The assessment and, when it's needed, the Discovery Sprint are free. The paid stages are development, with the scope, timeline and price fixed before it starts, and ongoing support, if you want it.

Why isn't there a price list?

Because two systems with the same name can have very different scopes. A price list would turn into an average that doesn't fit your case, or a “starting at” figure that grows later. That's why the development price is fixed for your scope, before development starts.

Can I get a ballpark figure before we talk?

A number for your project comes once we understand the scope. What you can know now: the 7 factors on this page show what makes a project cost more or less. Have a budget in mind? Pick the range in your request.

Do I have to continue with Lemamon.dev after Discovery?

No. Once you have the plan, with the timeline and price already fixed, you decide whether to move into development.

What if I need to change the scope mid-project?

You get working software every 2 weeks so you can spot early on what needs to change. If a change affects the scope, we agree on a revised scope, timeline and price with you before we continue.

From a free assessment to a fixed development price

A 45-minute conversation and written feedback. If the software has to be ready by a specific date, mention it when we talk, and the plan with the timeline and price will show what can be delivered by then.
