The problem
A cooking gas distributor needed an app for selling and delivering household gas (LPG) straight to consumers. It would be the brand's main app, built as a marketplace, for Android and for iOS.
What was agreed
- Prioritized scope
- The project covered the brand's main mobile app in two versions: one for Android, built with Java and Kotlin, and one for iOS, built with Swift. In both, the app works as a marketplace for selling and delivering household gas (LPG) straight to consumers.
What was delivered
Through the brand's main app, consumers buy household gas on their phone and get it delivered straight to them.
Who it’s for
The app was built for consumers who buy cooking gas for their homes and for the distributor that owns the brand.
How it works
LPG is liquefied petroleum gas, the cooking gas used in homes. A marketplace is an online sales space that brings together those who sell and those who buy; here, focused on this gas.
Both versions are native, that is, each one was made specifically for its system and written in its platform’s own language.
The technology, in plain words
- Android: Google’s operating system for phones and tablets; in this project, one of the app’s two platforms.
- iOS: Apple’s operating system for the iPhone; in this project, the app’s other platform.
- Java: a general-purpose programming language, for many years the main language for building Android apps; in this project, used in the Android version.
- Kotlin: a programming language compatible with Java, officially supported by Google for building Android apps; in this project, used in the Android version alongside Java.
- Swift: a programming language created by Apple, used for iPhone and iPad apps; in this project, it is the language of the iOS version.
How it went
Assessment
At the start
An initial conversation to understand the client's request and problem.
Discovery Sprint
Before building
The problem was understood and the scope defined.
Development
Between 2017 and 2019
Built in incremental releases throughout the project, not all at the end.
Support and continuous improvement
After going live
The app then moved into support and maintenance.
