The problem
A manufacturer needed to know in real time how many items its line produced and to track industrial metrics.
What was agreed
- Prioritized scope
- The project covered the production line control system in three parts: detecting and counting manufactured items in real time, done by a small electronic board; a structured back end, the part of the system that runs on the server; and a dashboard where industrial metrics are recorded and viewed.
What was delivered
Items made on the line are detected and counted by a small electronic board, and industrial metrics are recorded and on display in a dashboard, with a back end behind it, for whoever controls production.
Who it’s for
The system was built for a manufacturer and for whoever controls its production line.
How it works
On the line, the small board detects each manufactured item and counts it right away. That count goes to the back end, which sits behind the metrics dashboard.
The technology, in plain words
- React: a JavaScript library for building interfaces from reusable components; in this project, the interface is the metrics dashboard.
- Prisma: a tool for Node.js and TypeScript that bridges server code and the database.
- GraphQL: a query language for APIs, where whoever requests data states exactly what it wants back.
How it went
Assessment
At the start
An initial conversation to understand the client's request and problem.
Discovery Sprint
Before building
The problem was understood and the scope defined.
Development
Between 2017 and 2019
Built in incremental releases throughout the project, not all at the end.
Support and continuous improvement
After going live
The system then moved into support and maintenance.
