The problem

A manufacturer needed to control its production based on data about the products it made. That meant recording this data and displaying it to the people who manage production.

What was agreed

Prioritized scope
The project covered both parts of the production control system: a dedicated back end, the part that runs on the server and serves only this system, and an admin dashboard, where data on manufactured products is recorded and displayed.

What was delivered

The base for the manufacturer to control production: data on manufactured products, recorded and on display in a single dashboard.

Who it’s for

The system was built for a manufacturer and for the people who manage its production.

How it works

The people who manage production work in the dashboard. The dedicated back end sits behind it and supports recording and displaying the data.

The technology, in plain words

  • AngularJS: a JavaScript framework for building web interfaces that run in the browser; in this project, it is the base of the admin dashboard.
  • JavaScript: the programming language of the web, which gives pages behavior in the browser and also runs on servers; in this project, it is in both the dashboard and the back end.
  • LoopBack: a Node.js framework for building APIs, the doorways through which the dashboard requests and receives data from the server; in this project, it is the base of the dedicated back end.

How it went

  1. Assessment

    At the start

An initial conversation to understand the client's request and problem.

  2. Discovery Sprint

    Before building

The problem was understood and the scope defined.

  3. Development

    Between 2017 and 2019

Built in incremental releases throughout the project, not all at the end.

  4. Support and continuous improvement

    After going live

The system then moved into support and maintenance.
